One of the boys from Katzrin, accused of falsely imprisoning, stabbing and extortion by threatening a woman in her forties, was stabbed and beaten Wednesday morning at Ofek Prison in Even Yehuda, where he is being held. After being treated in the hospital, he was returned to prison in the afternoon.

The boy's father told Walla! Because from the first moment his son was arrested, he was not suspected of sexual offenses, and yes, no such offenses are attributed to him or the second defendant in the indictment. According to the father, because of the initial reports of sexual offenses allegedly committed by his son, he is vulnerable to abuse by other detainees.

The father also claimed that the IPS did not update the family on his son's condition. "We are helpless. This is a boy, he needs to be protected and prevented from being harmed," he said. According to the father, the fear of harming the boy frightened him from the beginning, so the judge allowed the defendant to receive the page from the transcript stating that he was not accused of a sexual offense. With the move to Ofek Prison, the page was taken from his hands.

The defendant's father added: "The trial has just begun, my son at this stage is only accused and we will prove his innocence. In any case, it needs to be protected. It's in the hands of the IPS, they have to protect it. We are now helpless. We don't know how he's doing, how he's doing, what injuries he's suffering."

The accused boy's father also said he hoped his son would soon be evaluated by a probation officer, who would recommend his release to house arrest under restrictive conditions.

Attorney Fathi Fukra, who represents the boy on behalf of the Public Defender's Office, said: "We were afraid of harm to him and therefore we asked him to have the protocol that clarifies that no sexual offense is attributed to him. We expected him to be protected and unfortunately he was hurt. The IPS is supposed to protect him."

On Sunday, an indictment was filed against the two boys arrested on suspicion of raping the woman in Katzrin - and they were not charged with sexual offenses. The two minors were accused of locking the 40-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son in a shelter, blackmailing her and stabbing the two.

The boys were arrested about two weeks ago following the woman's complaint that they locked her in a shelter, threatened to pay them money and even raped her, according to the victim. The boys claimed that it was a financial dispute between them and the complainant, a single mother, after they claimed that their house had been painted and she had not paid the full payment to which she had promised. At the same time as the indictment, the boys' detention was extended until June 15.
