The firm Colombo and Magliano had great participation in the Autumn Angus Exhibition, since it maintains a close link with the breed. On the other hand, the great champions of the livestock show were chosen.

After five days of activities that involved the different links of the livestock chain, the 80th Angus Autumn Exhibition, held at the Palermo fairgrounds, ended yesterday. As happened last year in the celebration of the Centenary, the livestock event organized by the breeders association of the breed was also developed under indoor track format.

For the second consecutive year, the consignee Colombo y Magliano SA accompanied the initiative and, in this edition, marked presence at the exhibition with a large stand of modern design, mounted in front of the same track in which the great champions were chosen.

"Last year we were summoned by the Association (Argentina de Angus) to participate in the celebration for the centenary of the race in this new modality of indoor track, very interesting; This year it was repeated for the autumn exhibition and we participated with the stand. The house is always to accompany the breed, "said Leandro Illa, of the team of the consignee firm.

Link. The consignee and Angus have a common history.

Strictly speaking, the event that kicked off the 80th Autumn Exhibition was a steer contest and subsequent auction in the corrals of the Cañuelas Agricultural and Livestock Market, on May 29. On that occasion, Colombo and Magliano auctioned 800 heads.

Yesterday he had to close the series of auctions of wintering and breeding, which was developed in parallel to the days of swearing of classification of controlled pure specimens and pedigree. In just over three hours, the firm sold the 8,000 heads offered, where quality strongly predominated.

"The 8,000 head is a significant number, especially if you think that it is a single-race auction; but you have to see that Angus represents 70 percent of the national rodeo," Illa said. It should be noted that the offer highlighted lots of large volume calves (300 or 400 animals), as well as liquid brand calves.

"The good offer is very sought after," said Illa and referred to the quality and uniformity of the lots, which are the most required by buyers: "Those lots are sought after because it is seen in the weight gain in the field, in the exit of the animal; which means secure income," he added. In that, Angus makes the difference.

Relationship over time

Colombo and Magliano, with more than 80 years of activity in the livestock market, maintains a long-standing link with the butcher breed of British origin. In that sense, Illa stressed that the relationship with the Argentine Association of Angus "comes for a long time" with the organization of events together and, as an example, cited the calf contests between the months of March and April in Chascomús, the auctions of production of cabins, which this year will be 18, and other events such as the Autumn Exhibition itself.

"We are interested in working together (in reference to the Association) because we feel comfortable and accompany the number one race," he added.

Hernán Vassallo and Juan Pedro Colombo, auctioneers of the firm.

The staff member of the consignee also highlighted the genetic contribution of Angus in the livestock market. In this regard, he pointed out that Colombo and Magliano have been auctioning in Chascomús for 42 years and, over the years, the evolution in quality of the farm is notorious, the result of investment in genetics by breeders.

"In Chascomús and other parties in the area we see a huge evolution in the quality of the calf; You see homogeneity, quality, definition, in addition to its production, which is also improving: there are smaller calves with more weight. You can see the adoption of genetics and the cabañeros are the first to carry out that flag, "he explained.

Quality is an attribute that is paid for in the livestock market. According to Illa, the oversupply of calves generated by the brutal drought that affected vast productive areas made winterers more selective when buying calves. "Everything that is defined Angus, both black and red, had a premium and was very sought-after" in the auctions, he stressed, while remarking that "it is a real fact: when there is oversupply, you pay very well what is very good. "

Great Angus Champions

Yesterday the pedigree specimens that won the highest award at the Autumn Angus Exhibition were known. According to the modality of the sample, the oaths were made alternately, according to black and red hair.

In the end, the young jury Javier Ezcurra chose the great champions in an instance of competition between the best males and females, one for each color.

A bull two years younger, from the La Rubeta cabin, was consecrated as the best male of the sample; it is red and is called Halcón. While a black intermediate heifer was the best female; was exhibited by Estancia La Invernada and Carlos Ojea Rullán.
