Aperol Paloma, which is being discussed as a trend drink for 2023, is a modern version of the classic Aperor. The combination of aperol and grapefruit gives the drink a unique flavor, while the lime provides a fresh acidity. Both drinks are refreshing options for balmy summer days and can be chosen according to personal taste. In addition to a dip in the cold water, a cool popsicle and a delicious picnic with finger food, a refreshing summer drink should not be missing in the coming months. In recent years, these have included Hugo, Lillet Wild Berry, Limoncello Spritz and, above all, Aperol Spritz. In fact, the aperitif has been known for over 100 years and, if at all possible, is becoming more and more popular. Now he is facing competition from the new It drink 2023 - the Aperol Paloma.

Spritz vs. Paloma: What's the Difference?

Aperol Spritz is a classic Italian aperitif drink that has been known and loved since 1919. It consists of Aperol, a bitter liqueur based on rhubarb, bitter oranges and herbs, combined with Prosecco and a splash of soda water. An Aperol Spritz is served with plenty of ice and a slice of orange in a wine glass. If you want to enjoy a particularly cheap (and delicious) glass of it, you should take a close look at the Aperol Spritz Index.

On the other hand, Aperol Paloma, which is being discussed as a trend drink for 2023, is a modern version of the aperitif classic Aperol. Crucial for the new twist is the Mexican Paloma cocktail. This is the national drink of Guadalajara, the most famous tequila region in Mexico and usually consists of tequila. Lime juice and grapefruit lemonade. The long drink is now known and loved all over the world and refreshes with the fruity-tart notes of the sparkling grapefruit lemonade. Just like the classic Aperol Spritz – so why not combine two coveted summer drinks?

This is how easy it is to prepare a glass of Aperol Paloma:

  • 50 ml Tequila-Silver
  • 50 ml grapefruit juice
  • 30 ml orange liqueur
  • 30 ml Aperol
  • 10 ml lime juice
  • Ice cube
  • Lime slice
  • In addition:
  • Cocktail shaker

Preparation: Fill the cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes. Pour tequila, lime and grapefruit juice, orange liqueur and Aperol into the shaker, put the lid on and shake. Strain the cocktail over a cocktail strainer into a glass with ice cubes. Garnish with a slice of lime and cheers!

The combination of Aperol and grapefruit gives the drink a unique flavor, while the lime provides a fresh acidity. The Aperol Paloma is often garnished with a slice of grapefruit or lime and served in a long drink glass with large ice cubes. If the preparation is too time-consuming for you, you can also exchange grapefruit and lime juice for the well-known Mexican lemonade Paloma (the one with the dove in the pink can). The carbonic acid gives the cocktail something tangy in addition to the acidity.

Do you prefer classic or trendy? Which Aperol cocktail is better?

While both Aperol Spritz and Aperol Paloma are based on the Aperol liqueur, they differ in the accompanying components and flavors. Aperol Spritz is lighter and more sparkling – simply sunshine in a glass. Aperol Paloma tastes more intensely fruity, thanks to the combination of tequila and grapefruit. However, both drinks are refreshing options for balmy summer days and can be chosen according to personal taste. And if in doubt, there is the Aperol Spritz as a classic aperitif before the meal and the Aperol Paloma just afterwards.
