A panel of judges of the Lod Center District Court, headed by Judge Ami Kobo, Michael Kershen and Merav Greenberg, convicted Liron Mehlal, 36, from Rehovot, of the murder of Ben Dabah from Bat Yam. Mehlal murdered him after Dabah came to him to collect a debt from him.
According to the indictment, in February 2021, Dabah and Hillel spoke on the phone and exchanged text messages, in light of Dabah's claim that Mehlal owed him money as a guarantor of another person's debt. During the exchange, Dabah informed Mehlal, to his dismay, that he was coming to his home to collect the debt.
Turned around and stabbed in the chest
In response to this call, Mahalal left his home in Rehovot, armed with a knife, and went to an intersection about 100 meters from his home, where he waited for Dabah to arrive. After a while, Dabah arrived in a car driven by a friend of his, and then it was alleged that a documented mehalel ran on the sidewalk toward the intersection and Dabah ran after him. Then, Mehlal turned toward Dabah and stabbed him several times in the chest, while Dabah stabbed Mehlal in the neck.
The verdict showed some of the text messages exchanged between the two. Dabah: "Listen, you policeman, I'm coming to Nofar for ... You're in the ass. You thousand-year-old slut, you'll see who I am, you son of..."
Praise: "You're in my muds, lol."
Dabah: "Don't worry, we'll see. Smelly drunk."
Praise: "I'm Sakhi, it's all good."
Dabah: "Start drinking a snippet. I'm exactly half an hour arriving don't worry. on...".
Praise: "In my children, in order for you to honor my parents, not me, you and I will meet soon, don't worry I'm coming, in my children I'm coming. You won't shame me in front of my whole family. I'm finishing earlier and we'll meet you duck."
And later... Praise: "Son, don't talk to me like that, son don't drive me crazy son, brother don't drive me crazy, don't let me roll over on you, did you hear?"
Court: "The explanations cannot be accepted"
Judge Karshan, who wrote the verdict, noted that it was impossible to accept Mehlal's naïve explanations for the announcement that he would "turn over" on Dabah. The content of the statement is inconsistent with the explanation that Mahalal meant only that Ben would not receive the payment due to him, an explanation that does not at all correspond to the conversation as a whole.
"It is certainly not possible to accept the other explanation given by Hillel for this statement, who supposedly did not want to be disturbed and harassed on his birthday, these are forced explanations that do not fit the statements made by Hillel in correspondence with Dabah," wrote Justice Karshan, adding: "A person who goes to a meeting with his debtor, knowing that he has no immediate ability to repay the debt, and does so with a knife that can kill, And after both sides threatened each other with violence, it is presumed that he intended to use a knife at least to significantly harm the other. A man who during such an 'encounter' stabs his friend three times in the chest area - a presumption that he intended to kill."
