Here we go again: FC Real Kreuth opens the forest and lake festival season at Lake Tegernsee this weekend. The memories of Corona have faded - but the focus is still on safety.

Tegernseer Tal/Kreuth – After a two-year break due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Real Kreuth footballers looked forward to the restart of their forest festival in the summer of 2022 with a certain degree of uncertainty. How big would the rush be? How can the exuberant desire to celebrate be brought under control? The association scaled back advertising and relied on the services of a security company. A visitor limit has also been set. A concept that has proven its worth. "We did a great job last year," says club chairman Max Breunig. That's why FC is sticking to the general conditions this year: "We're just as good as last year."

A maximum of 4000 visitors are allowed on the Waldfest grounds at the same time

On Friday and Saturday (15 and 9 June), 10 employees of a security service will be on site in Kreuth to check the requirements for the protection of minors and to direct the crowds. 4000 visitors are allowed on the grounds at the Leonhardstoanahof at the same time - "then it's over," explains Breunig. This not only serves safety, but also the cosiness on the grounds, which the three forest festival clubs – the Leonhardstoana, the ski club and the FC – have recently prepared with about 70 helpers for the start of the festival season.

Security service also in use in the centre of Kreuther

For the associations, the organization of the forest festivals is not only a feat of strength, but also a great responsibility. Breunig is therefore glad that there is a security concept agreed with the district office and the police and the support of the security forces. They would make sure that nothing gets out of hand, not only at the forest festival site itself, but also in the town centre, reports the chairman.

Night-time shuttle service brings visitors home to the forest festival

To ensure that traffic does not get out of hand, Breunig recommends travelling to the forest festival without your own car if possible. A shuttle bus that runs between 00:30 and 3 a.m. throughout the valley and brings visitors home is ready again. "It's certainly not enough for everyone, but maybe it's a small incentive to leave the car at home," Breunig hopes. Nevertheless, this year, for the second time, the association has leased a meadow opposite the town hall, which is available as an additional parking lot. Otherwise, the football club relies on consistency at its forest festival: "The festival is exactly the same as it was 30 years ago," says Breunig, who is also in good spirits that the forest festival can take place as planned on both days.

On 11 July, the first lake festival takes place in Rottach-Egern

A little later in the summer, the start of the lake festival season follows. Traditionally, this is where Rottach-Egern makes the start – this year on 11 July. Officially, Corona no longer plays a role, but the motto "less is more" is still being pursued here as well. Last year, advertising for the lake festivals – especially in Munich – was sharply reduced, reports Peter Rie, event manager of Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH (TTT). Most recently, there had been "no more pushing and no crowding" at the lake festivals. "Nevertheless, the stand operators were very satisfied," assures Rie. The TTT welcomes the fact that there is a general trend towards smaller event formats in the valley communities. "This is good for us and fits in with our quality standards," says Rie. The forest and lake festivals have their own fan groups anyway – "you don't need to go one step further".

Shortage of bus drivers is also noticeable in the shuttle concept

To ensure that the roads and parking lots are not clogged, TTT has also developed a shuttle concept together with the shipping industry and the RVO this year. Not an easy task, as Rie says. In order to use additional booster buses, there is a lack of bus drivers. Nevertheless, Rie says, it is ensured that free trips by bus or boat to the lake festivals are possible from 17 p.m. onwards.
