The ignominious attack on children in Annecy by a Syrian, whose first name, Abdelmasih, means 'slave of the Messiah' in Arabic, illustrates the complexity and limits of the right of asylum in France and in the European Union. Whatever the hypotheses about his administrative situation in Europe, it can already be concluded that the irregularity of his entry into EU territory did not prevent him from benefiting from international protection. If his application for asylum in Sweden has been accepted, he will have benefited from a refugee permit allowing him, ultimately, to go to France, legally. And to perpetrate the crime for which he is implicated. But the different information gathered so far can already shed light on the benevolent system developed in the EU for applicants and beneficiaries of international protection.
