"The essence of street art is to be ephemeral": in Reims, 80 graffiti artists will renew the giant fresco

A succession of graffiti spread over 800 m2, along the rue Philippe, on a concrete wall belonging to the SNCF. All were made by dozens of street artists in September 2017. Several years have passed since then, and the time has come to reclaim this unparalleled artistic project in Reims. Called "Zi Artistes", this operation will be repeated on the weekend of June 10 and 11.

The initial work will be completely covered. Nearly 80 street artists from France and around the world will recreate a unique open-air gallery. Among the hundred artists present: Manyak, Pest, Sader, Vision, Seth, Pisco, Wüna, Sitou, Senzo, or the Rémois Cézart... Olivier Stroh at the head of the association ZI Port Sec-La Husselle, initiator of the project, is delighted: "The very essence of street art is that it remains ephemeral. This week, after cleaning the wall, a professional provider will cover in white and then color variations will be applied by CFA students. The idea is that each group of artists exploits a flat area. The objective is to have cohesion and concordance in the work."

The initial fresco, which spread over 600 linear meters, will expand to reach 1000 linear meters. As in 2017, the general public is invited to these two days of performance where "happenings", concerts and animations will be proposed. A nod to the theme chosen this year: music. A graphic score directly linked to the industrial area and its district, which hosts a music school, a third place, two theaters and a discotheque.... "We are in a neighborhood marked music. Industry was the history of the industrial zone and the theme of the first fresco. But today, it was essential to talk about music, "says Olivier Stroh.

On the sidelines of the event, an exhibition-sale of original works and an auction will be held at an auctioneer and online. The opportunity to further promote the work of graffiti artists, street-artists and painters, amateurs as well as professionals invited on this project.
