STORY - While the Annecy park, where the knife attack took place, reopened late Thursday afternoon, families remained incredulous and frightened.


In footage filmed by a witness, a man wearing black shorts, wearing a blue turban and wearing sunglasses, bursts into a busy playground, just opposite Lake Annecy, Haute-Savoie. Armed with a knife, the jogger-like suspect repeatedly stabs young children. "Stop! Call the police!" pleads a mother as she tries to protect her stroller. The scene, unbearable, lasts long seconds. Moments earlier, a reckless walker had tried to slow the assailant's progress by sacking him and chasing him. Two municipal officers also tried to block his way. In vain.
