The individual suspected of having injured five including four children in a park in Annecy (Haute-Savoie) on Thursday is a 32-year-old Syrian.
This individual, named Abdalmasih, had applied for asylum at the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (OFPRA) on November 28, 2022, under normal procedure, according to a source close to the investigation.
But he had meanwhile been granted refugee status in Sweden on 26 April 2023. "His request for France was therefore devoid of purpose. It was regular from the point of view of EU law," the source said.
