Highlights: A Geretsrieder fled from the police in winter - and ended up in a garden pond. The 42-year-old, who had been convicted several times, was sentenced to eight months in prison for intentional drunk driving and driving without a license. "I'm sorry, I really messed up," the accused said in court. The court sentenced the GereTSrieder to a further eight months, which will no longer be suspended. Completely drunk with cannabis and amphetamines, a Geretsrieder fled from the police in winter - and ended up in a garden pond. Now the 42-year-old was on trial.

Geretsried/Wolfratshausen – The news had caused a smile last winter: While fleeing from the police, a Geretsried man had "dived" into a garden pond. However, the officers soon fished the 42-year-old out of the cold water. Now the unemployed chemical technician had to answer to the district court. Geretsrieder, who had been convicted several times, was sentenced to eight months in prison for intentional drunk driving and driving without a license.

Geretsried: Man races police in the car away - and ends up in the garden pond

In order to make his wife, who was ill with Corona at the time, happy, he wanted to thoroughly clean her car in a parking lot after he "accidentally found the car key in her handbag". But then he stopped at a casino. According to his own statement, he spent a few hours there and consumed various drugs during this time.

On the way home, the police came to meet him. When they wanted to check him, the man had raced away at 70 to 80 kilometers per hour through a 30 km/h zone, turned onto the Amselweg and jumped out of the car. The driverless car rolled on, demolished a bench and a flower pot in front of a butcher's shop, while the driver initially hid behind a bush.

"I was confused, I knew they would find me there, that's why I jumped into the pond," the accused explained in court. "I'm sorry, I really messed up."

Fleeing from police has good reasons: man completely drunk on cannabis and amphetamines

However, he had good reasons for his escape: Not only had he been sitting at the wheel completely drunk with cannabis and amphetamines and had no driver's license, he was also under open probation at the time of the crime. In the last of his 14 previous trials, the Geretsrieder was sentenced to two years in prison with probation for drug offenses by the district court in Rosenheim. However, he had not complied with the conditions attached to freedom, had neither started the prescribed therapy nor stopped consuming drugs.

On that night last November, he had been aware of the consequences of being caught. "I hope I get another chance. I drove the family into debt with my drug stories, I want to make up for that," the defendant lamented.
