Federal police officers were alerted on Wednesday to a fire on a freight train. Instead of a fire, the police discovered two stowaways on board.
Munich/Bremen – On Wednesday afternoon, the Federal Police Inspectorate in Munich received a report of smoke on a freight train. During the inspection, no smoke could be detected, but the emergency services discovered two women who had hidden in the tub of one of the freight cars. According to the police, the "stowaways" had traveled an incredible 700 kilometers on the freight train, from Bremen through Lower Saxony to Munich.
700 kilometers: Women travel on a freight train from Bremen to Munich
The emergency control center of Deutsche Bahn AG had previously reported smoke development and sightings on the freight train in the Munich-Karlsfeld area. But when the Federal Police patrol arrived, no smoke could be detected. The train driver stated that although he no longer perceived smoke, he had discovered people in the tub of a wagon. There, the emergency services found the two women, aged 27 and 32, who had apparently spent a long time there. Her entire body was covered with brake dust and dirt.

According to the information, the women had boarded the train the evening before at 21:10 p.m. in Bremen and had covered the entire distance to Karlsfeld on the wagon. Their destination was Munich. Due to the incident, the Munich-Treuchtlingen-Ingolstadt line had to be closed for about an hour, which led to considerable restrictions in rail operations.

The two women, who have no permanent residence in Germany, were released after the police measures were completed. They are being investigated for fraudulently obtaining benefits. The Federal Police urgently warns against riding on or in freight trains and emphasizes that there is a danger to life.
