District – The "Bird-Friendly Garden" campaign is also entering its second round in the Landsberg district: Together with the Bavarian Species Conservation Centre in the State Office for the Environment (LfU), volunteers from the LBV Landsberg district group are once again awarding prizes to private gardens in the district that offer birds and insects a valuable habitat.
Private gardens are visited and evaluated for their bird-friendliness. Four gardens have already received the "Bird-Friendly Garden" award this year. The action takes place as part of the LfU's "gBiodiversity" campaign. From now on, the jury teams will be on the road until mid-October and evaluate the registered gardens. In order to receive the coveted "Bird-Friendly Garden" plaque, garden owners must show that birds and insects feel comfortable with them: In addition to feeding and nesting opportunities, for example, near-natural garden management plays a major role.
If you would like to have your own garden evaluated free of charge, you can enter it under www.vogelfreundlichergarten.de. The gardens will then be visited upon receipt of the registration. Before that, of course, an appointment is made for evaluation.
Last year, more than 1,250 gardens in Bavaria received the plaque, around 90 of them in the district. "The large number of gardens that have already received awards shows us that more and more people are developing an understanding of how much joy it is to give nature space in their own garden," says Eva Krüger, chairwoman of the LBV Landsberg district group. "We hope the plaque will inspire many more to the little wilderness on our doorstep."
