Daniel Melero, who was in charge of making the statue of Mirtha Legrand that was installed in Villa Cañás, is in the eye of the storm these days due to the criticism he received in the networks, in the media, from Marcela Tinayre and even from the diva herself. But the truth is that it is not the first time that the sculptor goes through a situation of this type.
Although last Sunday he rose to fame when he discovered his work of art for the 121st anniversary of the Santa Fe town in which the driver was born, the artist from Laboulaye had already recreated several celebrities, such as Pablo Aimar, Soledad Pastorutti and Lionel Messi.
In July 2021, for example, Melero installed Messi's sculpture in Córdoba as a tribute after the footballer won the Copa América with the Argentine National Team.

At that time the images of the iron statue, which represents the striker about to kick a ball, went viral and were trending in the networks.
In addition, in 2017 the artist had been involved in a controversy over a sculpture he dedicated to former footballer Pablo César Aimar. That one was installed in Río Cuarto, the athlete's hometown, punctually in the Plazoleta del Futbolista.

At that time the plastic artist was in the middle of another controversy for some statements he made in a radio interview, in which he said that although he had portrayed Aimar, the authorities of Río Cuarto asked him not to carry the name of the player by an ordinance that prohibits making tributes and monuments to living people in public places.

In addition, in 2014 the artist and teacher also decided to pay tribute to La Sole and dedicated a sculpture to him that is currently in Arequito. Melero chose to portray the folk singer with a field bombacha, t-shirt, vest and doing what characterizes her most: fluttering a poncho.

Melero, who is also a professor, spoke in El Doce de Córdoba and referred to the controversy. The interviewee explained that they specifically asked him to portray La Chiqui and passed him a reference photo.
"They passed me a picture where Mirtha is sitting. They told me, 'We want something like that, with those clothes,' and I was guided by that photo," he said.
And he clarified that "Mirtha has known totally from the beginning. She gave the ok for it to be done. It wasn't going to happen if there wasn't Mirtha's approval."
