The road on the Zwergern peninsula at Lake Walchen is being rehabilitated. The work will begin next Monday, June 12, and is expected to last until autumn.

Walchensee - The municipal road on the Zwegern peninsula will be completely closed to private traffic from 12 June during the renovation work. The measure, which costs around 1.4 million euros, is financed with funds from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), among others.

Mayor Thomas Holz: "The road has been in a desolate condition for a long time."

"The road has been in a desolate condition for a long time," explains Mayor Thomas Holz in a press release from the municipality of Kochel am See. Due to the comparatively very high costs for the development of only a few properties, intensive research was carried out to find financing options that were bearable for all parties involved. With EAFRD, "a suitable funding has been found," says treasurer Thomas Bacher. The programme promotes sustainable rural development in the European Union, such as road construction to remote hamlets and farmsteads. The municipality of Kochel can count on funding of around half a million euros.

Funding from "EAFRD"

"But the residents and property owners have also all pulled together and supported the measure," praises the mayor. Since the new road will be wider than before in some places due to the funding guidelines, land is needed by the owners. "Without their commitments, implementation would not be possible." In addition to the new construction of the approximately 1.6-kilometre-long road, the laying of the water and electricity lines as well as an empty conduit for telecommunications connections will also take place, adds the head of the construction administration of the administrative community, Dirk Grusdas. According to the municipality, the construction work is expected to be completed by October. During this time, the road is also completely closed to cyclists.
