Against the backdrop of the recent wave of murders in the Arab sector, Likud MKs and ministers received a message sheet announcing that actions are being taken to integrate the Shin Bet in thwarting crime, Israel Hayom reported on Friday.

The letter also noted that "the prime minister is well acquainted with the sensitivities regarding these special measures. After all, until now, the same means have been used illegally, mainly against him and his entire immediate environment."

After Netanyahu proposed integrating the Shin Bet into dealing with the escalation of murders in Arab society, the public defender's office expressed clear opposition.

Ahead of the upcoming meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Legislation, the Public Defender's Office sent a letter to Justice Minister Yariv Levin, in which she asked to express her opposition in principle to the bill under consideration, and called on the committee to remove it from the agenda.

The bill seeks to enshrine in law the authority of the Israel Security Agency to assist the Israel Police in preventing and investigating serious criminal crimes in accordance with rules set by the Prime Minister. It is also proposed to grant the ISA general authority to investigate suspects and suspicions in connection with the commission of these offenses or to conduct investigations in order to prevent those offenses.
