The senior attorney in the State Attorney's Office suspected of causing the negligent death of an elderly woman is Omri Koffler. It is suspected that about two months ago, the senior prosecutor hit a pedestrian in her late 80s while driving his car in Hod Hasharon.
The elderly woman was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead. Sharon District traffic examiners opened an investigation and recently interrogated the senior prosecutor on suspicion of negligent homicide. The police updated the State Prosecutor's Office on the investigation.
The matter was referred to State Prosecutor Amit Isman, who ordered that the case be transferred to the MAG Corps due to the conflict of interest, since the MAG Corps cannot handle a case involving an attorney on its behalf.
The findings of the investigation have been transferred to the MAG Corps, where it will soon be decided whether it is appropriate to prosecute the MAG Corps.
A police source told Israel Hayom: "The elderly woman was moderately injured in the accident and evacuated to hospital. She later died. It is unclear whether she died as a direct result of the accident."
The State Prosecutor's Office said in response: "Following the police's request, the State Attorney instructed that the MAG Corps not handle the incident and will not accompany the investigation, and ordered that the case be transferred to the Military Advocate General's Office. The State Prosecutor's Office was not involved in the matter at all and was not even updated on the details of the investigation."
