Freising – Freising and its cinema has been enriched by another chapter. Another unpleasant chapter: The CineradoPlex in the Schlüterhallen is closed. On the homepage of the Schlüterhallen it says "Temporarily closed". 2. Mayor Eva Bönig, who had a confidential conversation with the operator of the CineradoPlex Peter Schafft, said at least this much when asked by the FT: "The city of Freising is urgently interested in ensuring that Freising continues to exist as a cinema location."

Freising's cineastes are used to grief and withdrawal: Since the closure of the Camera cinemas in 2013, the cathedral city has been a city without a cinema. Although the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Schlüterhallen including the cinema complex was held in the same year, it was a matter of waiting. "Coming soon" proclaimed a sign for a long time, the years went by, in 2018, it was once announced, the first films were to flicker across the screens (while the shopping center had long been in operation).

In 2019, the shock came: The original operator Cinestar cancelled. But a successor was found relatively quickly: Peter Schafft and CineradoPlex GmbH, which also operates the cinema in Pfaffenhofen. In autumn 2021, the opening will finally take place.

No program on the homepage

And now? "Temporarily closed" according to the Schlüterhallen homepage, on the websites of CineradoPlex there is no program for Freising or Pfaffenhofen, only the note: "We are on vacation", but no time if and when the two film temples will reopen.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

If you go to investigate the causes, you come up against a wall of silence. Schafft responds to the request for a written statement as follows: "We ask you to give us a pleasant holiday until we are back for everyone in a few weeks." A second request for a written statement to prevent rumours and speculation went completely unanswered.

Eva Bönig conducts confidential conversation

Freising's 2nd mayor, Eva Bönig, also went in search of clues when she learned of the closure, as she told the Freisinger Tagblatt when asked. In a "confidential conversation" with Schafft, which should also remain confidential, Bönig had informed himself. In addition, she will hold further talks in the coming week.

What Bönig was able to elicit, however: "We are urgently interested in ensuring that Freising continues to exist as a cinema location." Of course, this can mean many things – whether with CineradoPlex or with another operator, whether at short notice at the Schlüterhallen site or perhaps at another location. One thing is clear, however: When the contract was concluded with the investor for the new Schlüterhallen, Josef Saller, and the development plan was approved, the construction of a cinema was part of the permit.

So now there is a multiplex cinema with five screens at the gates of Freising, which can accommodate a total of 559 cinemagoers. A multiplex cinema that has closed its doors for an unknown time after less than two years. And Freising is once again a city without a cinema. Freising's cineastes are used to grief.
