Highlights: The Broatnstoana Fischbachau are celebrating their 140th anniversary this year. The first event is scheduled for the weekend, with a traditional costume festival. The club is the second oldest traditional costume club in all of Bavaria. On the occasion of their 130th anniversary, they also had the honour of hosting the Gaufest – 5000 traditional costumers came to the Leitzachtal despite the midsummer heat. For the time being, however, the festival will come to an end on Sunday, 18 June.

The Broatnstoana Fischbachau are celebrating their 140th anniversary this year. The first event is scheduled for the weekend.

Fischbachau – It was a Zuagroaster, of all people, who laid the foundation for the second oldest traditional costume club in all of Bavaria. Teacher Georg Rotter from Emsing, a small village near Eichstätt, was 23 years young when he took up his first job in Birkenstein, then a school town for Fischbachau. But the newcomer quickly became at home in the Leitzach Valley, tradition and traditional costume had particularly taken a liking to him. And so he initiated something that his teacher colleague Josef Vogl had initiated shortly before in nearby Bayrischzell: a traditional costume club. In 16, together with 1883 young men, Rotter founded the Fischbachau Folk Costume Preservation Association at the Kramerwirt inn. This year marks the 140th anniversary.

The foundation was the beginning of a veritable avalanche of enthusiasm for traditional costumes. All of a sudden, new clubs sprang up everywhere. As early as 1890, the first Gauverband was founded in Rosenheim, to which the Fischbachauer belonged until the change to the Oberlandler Gauverband in 1921. However, they have borne their current nickname Broatnstoana since 1895, when the members erected the first summit cross on the western summit of Breitenstein.

Kick-off is approaching: DJ Fandic will be DJing on Saturday

Meanwhile, another club, founded in 1918 in the district of Hammer by a handful of boys, also bore a mountain in its name: the Schuhplattler "Jägerkamm Aurachthal". As early as 1922, the then only 35 members had a flag consecrated and invited to many Plattler and traditional costume evenings in the Fischeralm and in the Gasthof Hammer. In 1947 the club was incorporated into the Broatnstoanan. However, the connection to the "Jägerkamm" remained, as the Trachtler have been alternating between Breitenstein and Jägerkamp every year since that time at their mountain fair.

This is just one of many activities in the traditionally well-filled annual calendar of the Broatnstoana. In this way, it and its currently around 430 members enrich social life in Fischbachau with theatre performances, performances by the Plattler groups or the erection of the maypole, among other things. On the occasion of their 130th anniversary, they also had the honour of hosting the Gaufest – 5000 traditional costumers came to the Leitzachtal despite the midsummer heat.

The Broatnstoana are now hoping for many visitors at their extensive festive programme for the 140th anniversary. The prelude in the marquee on the meadow on Badstraße is the legendary "Born to be Scharf" party of the active Plattler. Tomorrow, Saturday, DJ Fandic will play for the audience from 20 p.m. (admission from 16 years).

Trachtlerfest starts on Thursday, 15 June

The actual traditional costume festival starts on Thursday, June 15, at 18:30 p.m. with the suckling pig dinner and beer tapping as well as musical entertainment by the ProMill brass band (reservations at schriftfuehrer@trachtenverein-fischbachau.org or telephone 0172/9002225).

On Friday, 16 June, from 19 p.m., the Preisplatteln with bar service will follow, also in the marquee, before on Saturday, 17 June, with the Heimatabend, a real delicacy for all tradition lovers is on the programme. From 19 p.m. (admission 18.30 p.m.) musicians, singers, Plattler and Goaßlschnalzer will perform here - not only from the Broatnstoanan, but also from other local and sponsor associations. Moderator Andreas Estner expertly guides you through the home evening.

Highlight on Sunday, 18 June

For the time being, however, the highlight of the anniversary days is the festive Sunday, 18 June. The field fair starts at 10 a.m. in the spa park. This is followed by a procession through the village and a cosy get-together in the tent. With a cauldron meat dinner on Monday, June 19, from 18 p.m. with the music bands Niklasreuth and Fischbachau, the festival will come to a lively end.

An anniversary, therefore, that would certainly make club founder Georg Rotter proud. Incidentally, in his home village, which today belongs to the municipality of Titting, the traditional costume movement did not gain a foothold. As a glance at the register of associations shows, there is a great variety from marksmen, brass bands to warrior and comradeship clubs - but not a pure traditional costume club. A real export hit, the Broatnstoana Fischbachau. Sg
