At the south portal of Notre-Dame-de-Chartres Cathedral (Eure-et-Loir), the Café Serpente is a chartraine institution. From the outside, on the front, Chartrains and tourists will not see any of the flowers of the new "trendy" decoration that the bosses made last January. And for good reason. "You have to go back to discover the flowers," explains Cyriane, manager of the premises since January 2019. The wind around the religious building would not have been problematic, assures the thirty-year-old, but we are in a restricted area, and the Buildings of France watch ... »
1900-style wallpaper with flowers, giant ficus and real wooden creepers, "we wanted to break with the atmosphere of before, especially that of the collection of 400 teapots," explains Cyriane. "We kept them for a year but we noticed that they proved to be a hindrance for local customers." The bistro atmosphere has been recreated by the chartraine company Décors de Maïté.
"No need to water them"
For flowers, "we then met Luc Deschamps, a Parisian florist," explains the boss. It is to this professional that we owe the decoration of the Moulin Rouge, the brasserie La Favorite Saint-Paul, the brasserie of Triadou Haussmann, and many terraces and storefronts all more flowery than the others of Parisian restaurants and cafes.
"Silk flowers contribute to the family and friendly atmosphere," says Cyriane, at the Café Serpente in Chartres. In total, three days of installation were required. The cost of the service will remain secret, as well as the economic benefits for the institution. But the result is striking, with three atmospheres mixing cherry blossoms tinted with different colors: spring yellow, orange atmosphere, leaves with an autumnal tone. "No need to water them," smiled the former Parisian. In the lounges of the bistro, artificial flowers made of recyclable fabric and hand-painted by small touches, will remain for a while: "They do not fade, that's the advantage. "
