93% of the 52,829 militants who have voted in the consultation give full powers to their leadership to negotiate a joint list | Compromís will concur with the platform of Yolanda Díaz in the Valencian Community

The general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has affirmed that her formation will attend "the general elections with Sumar, "that decision is taken", but has rejected the veto that, she says, the formation of Yolanda Díaz maintains on Irene Montero. " From the negotiating team of Yolanda Díaz we have been transferred that the presence of Irene Montero (...) is an insurmountable obstacle to reach a unity agreement, "explained Belarra. "We have been asked to sacrifice our main political asset," he said, warning that "we do not accept any veto on the negotiation." Earlier, 92.9% of the 52,829 Podemos militants who participated in the consultation opened on Thursday for the possible pact had given carte blanche to the leadership to negotiate a joint list. Both groups have until midnight to reach an agreement. Compromís has already announced a definitive agreement to integrate into Sumar, with which there are already eight formations that have formalized the incorporation.

Belarra, on Montero's exclusion: "We have been asked to sacrifice our main political asset"

"From the negotiating team of Yolanda Díaz we have been transferred that the presence of Irene Montero in the team that attends the next general elections is an insurmountable obstacle to reach a unity agreement," explained Belarra. "I am deeply saddened that Yolanda proposes that the agreement be built on the exclusion of a comrade who has taken feminist transformations further than anyone before in our country."

"We have been asked once again to sacrifice our main political asset," he said of the exclusion of Minister Irene Montero, which he described as "injustice" and "tremendous political error."

"With the latest offer made by the negotiating team of Sumar, Podemos could be left without representation in the Congress of Deputies. This is something that does not seem fair to us," he added.

"Podemos' commitment to unity is firm and today Podemos' signature in the coalition is guaranteed, but we want to reach a fair agreement. We hope we don't have to go to the last minute to register the coalition. The agreement can be reached in a very short time if there is a will on Yolanda's part. We do not accept any veto as part of the negotiation," he added.

Belarra: "We will attend the general elections with Sumar"

The general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, is appearing to report on the progress of negotiations to close a possible agreement with Sumar and attend the general elections of 23-J together.

Belarra began his speech by thanking the more than 52,000 militants of the formation who voted in the consultation. He also addressed those who voted against: "I listen to you carefully. Perhaps some of you fear that the final agreement will not be fair to Podemos. A part of me feels that way too."

"We will go to the general elections with Sumar," he said.

The PP of Barcelona moves away a pact with the PSC to prevent Trias from being mayor: "we will not give a blank check"

Àngels Piñol

The mayor of the PP in Barcelona, Daniel Sirera, has reiterated this noon his decision to vote for himself in the plenary session of the constitution of the City Council and thus fulfill the proposal he made in the electoral campaign: not to vote for an independentist mayor or Ada Colau. In a press conference at the headquarters of the party, Sirera has invited the socialist Jaume Collboni to say what he wants to be "older" by maintaining that he has claimed his support without offering anything in return. "We do not want to give a blank check so that after the general elections we find Colau as deputy mayor or the commons or Esquerra within the government," he said.

Sumar will carry the face of Yolanda Díaz on the ballot

The ballot of Sumar for the next general elections will have the face of Yolanda Díaz printed, according to party sources. The vice president's face may go next to the coalition's logo. The strategy was already used in space in 2014 by Pablo Iglesias when he headed the candidacy of Podemos to the European Parliament and also by the leader of Adelante Andalucía, Teresa Rodríguez, in the regional elections of 2022.

Mayor Ada Colau has also put a face to the Barcelona en comú ballot three times: in 2015, 2019 and 2023. And this year the candidate of Junts, Xavier Trias, has done the same.

Bendodo assures that the PP will reverse the appointment of Dolores Delgado if possible

The general coordinator of the PP, Elías Bendodo, has assured this Friday that his party will reverse, if possible, the appointment of Dolores Delgado as prosecutor of the Democratic Memory room because he considers that "it has been done in a caciquil way".

"If it were possible, obviously yes because it is a cacicada," he responded in an interview on Antena 3 when asked about the appointment of the former minister and if they will try to reverse it in the event that the PP wins the next general elections.

Bendodo has attributed the appointment to an attempt by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to place all his "pawns" and "related", also in Congress and the Senate, because it seems that "the cycle is over" of this Government. "It smells like disarray," he said.

"It sounds like the end of the cycle and, therefore, we, everything that can be reversed because it has been done in a caciquil way and in bad ways at the last minute, obviously we will try to reverse it," he added. (EFE)

The Police register the City Council and the Assembly of Melilla for the alleged purchase of votes by mail

The National Police has made several searches this Friday in the City of Melilla and in the Assembly of the autonomous city to look for documentation related to the alleged plot of buying votes by mail in the regional and municipal elections of May 28. The investigation, which has affected different ministries, is under summary secrecy.

In the last elections, Coalition for Melilla (CpM), the localist formation indicated by the State Attorney General's Office for being related to the alleged electoral fraud, fell from 8 seats to 5, with 5,467 votes (18.63%), while the PP won by absolute majority by achieving 14 deputies and 15,488 votes (54.33%).

According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, the process to request the postal vote in Melilla ended with 11,707 registered applications, validating 2,572 votes, representing 22% of the total.

PSOE, CC and PP sign an agreement to govern in Tazacorte (La Palma)

This week, Coalición Canaria and Partido Popular have closed a government pact to evict the PSOE, the most voted party in the regional elections of 28-M, from the presidency of the Canary Islands. The nationalist leader, Fernando Clavijo, assured that a pact with the socialist leader, Ángel Víctor Torres, was impossible for programmatic reasons. Municipal politics, however, makes strange traveling companions. PSOE, CC and PP have signed an agreement to govern in the small coastal town of Tazacorte (4,600 inhabitants, southwest of the island) and thus leave in opposition to the most voted list, that of Nueva Canarias. Manuel Ico González (PSOE) will be mayor during the first two years of his term, while David Ruiz (CC) will hold the position the following biennium.

"It's the idiosyncrasy of each place," explains Tony Santana, the spokesman for the Popular Party in the municipality. "Towns have nothing to do with big cities, and Tazacorte was asking for change."

Juan Miguel Rodríguez, from Nueva Canarias, the most voted candidate with five councilors, will remain in the opposition after this pact. The PSOE won three councillors in the last elections; CC, two; and PP, one. During the last mandate, the municipality, one of the three affected by the volcano, has been governed by a pact signed between Nueva Canarias and Unión Bagañeta-Coalición Canaria. The representative of Nueva Canarias, Juan Miguel Rodríguez (the mayor who managed the volcanic crisis in the municipality) was the mayor for the first three years: David Ruiz was the alderman last year.

Tazacorte was one of the municipalities affected by the volcano that erupted in September 2021: 59.31% of the soil was cut off, according to data from the City Council. 31.56% of its territory, 3.8 square kilometers, was buried under lava.

Our 'damn' bipartisanship, again

Estefanía Molina

The nostalgia for bipartisanship looms its head this 23-J. There are those who think that the new parties only act as a parade of the old ones, generating more mess than utility in our democracy. And this is a sign that the illusion for political change has long since come to an end. Spain retreats on logics very similar to those that existed before 15-M, where the prominence of the old alternation returns, after the swing of recent years.

UPN proposes to the PP to attend together to the elections of 23-J

After a week of crossed reproaches, UPN has proposed to the PP to attend the general elections together, repeating the formula of the last elections: that the first two names on the list to Congress and the second to the Senate are from UPN, and that the PP choose number 3 to the lower house and the first and third to the upper house.

Last attempt at negotiation, after yesterday, the president of UPN, Javier Esparza, called "joke" and "unacceptable" the proposal of Cuca Gamarra, who wanted a coalition of the two parties, but led by the PP, despite the regionalists have quadrupled the votes of the popular in Navarra in these last elections.

Another question remains to be clarified: What role will Sergio Sayas and Carlos García Adanero play? The two fugitive deputies of UPN have presented themselves to the regional and local elections under the acronym of the PP.

Looking for the irradiating core

Natalia Junquera

It was already warned months ago in this section that reality was dangerously close to the headlines of El Mundo today, the satirical newspaper that invents news to make people laugh. On May 23, prophetically, the official account of the parodic media outlet tweeted: "Oh, no. A politician has messed with the mobile phone and created a new left-wing party." Well, this Thursday became trending topic #Juntas, nothing more and nothing less than the name of the party that Podemos registered "by mistake" in the Ministry of the Interior, with official headquarters, web and photographs coinciding with those of the party led by Ione Belarra.

The primaries of Junts are entangled in Lleida and Tarragona

Marc Rovira

Pedro Sánchez's sudden announcement to call early elections on July 23 has accelerated the parties' machinery for nominating candidates. Agility and haste are the slogans to be able to focus, without delay, an electoral campaign that is expected to be latent due to the summer heat and because it is loaded with the hangover of the municipal elections of May 28. Junts per Catalunya has managed to avoid a battle in Barcelona, where Jaume Giró threatened to fight for the position of Míriam Nogueras, but other fronts have been opened. This Friday the party's primaries are held to designate headliners where there is competition for names. In Lleida, up to five candidates seek to head the Junts ballot for the general elections, and in Tarragona the two souls of the post-convergence proposal come out to compete: The pragmatic sector against the most agitated faction of the formation, close to the theses of its president, Laura Borràs.

The parties that aspire to join Sumar gathered 2.2 million votes in the recent municipal elections and 2.9 in 2019

Eliona Rakipaj

During the negotiations between Sumar and the parties destined to join the coalition led by the second vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, the electoral results obtained by each formation in the recent municipal and regional elections of May 28 are looked at with a magnifying glass. The deadline established to register the coalitions that want to attend the general elections of 23-J ends at midnight from this Friday to Saturday. And while waiting for the agreement with Podemos to be closed, which has launched a consultation with its militancy to ask them to support the negotiations, a dozen parties have expressed their explicit intention to converge with Sumar: Izquierda Unida (with the PCE inside), Más Madrid, Más País, Compromís, Catalunya en Comú, Verdes Equo, Alianza Verde, Chunta Aragonesista, Batzarre in Navarra, Més in the Balearic Islands, Proyecto Drago in the Canary Islands and Iniciativa del Pueblo Andaluz. The sum of the electoral candidacies located to the left of the PSOE has obtained around 2.2 million votes in the last local elections compared to almost 2.9 million in November 2019, according to the analysis carried out by EL PAÍS.

The final day for the Sumar-Podemos agreement starts

Good morning

This Friday the day will be marked by the negotiations for the integration (or not) of Podemos in the lists of the Sumar platform headed by the Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz. The formation directed by Ione Belarra opened an online consultation on Thursday, which ends at 10.00, in which it asked the militancy if it authorized the leadership to negotiate and if necessary agree on that integration. If they authorize them, the crux of the matter will be in the inclusion or not in the lists by Madrid of the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero. At midnight the deadline to close the lists throughout the country expires, so those parties that aspire to present coalitions, must close them this Friday.

The Minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, number two on the PSOE list for Madrid, is interviewed on Onda Cero, while the coordinator of the PP campaign, Elías Bendodo, goes to Espejo Público, on Antena 3. The deputy secretary of Institutional of the PP, Esteban González Pons, maintains meetings with police unions and prison officials.
