Two years ago, the security guard was set up in Peiting. But things are not going smoothly in terms of personnel: the search for volunteers to go on patrol is still difficult. The lack of staff was now also an issue in the municipal council.

Peiting – Maximilian Stemmler got straight to the point: "Unfortunately, there is a shortage of personnel," said the service group leader responsible for the Peitinger security guard at the Schongau police when he reported to the municipal council on the work of the facility. At the beginning of the year, Stemmler had already been worried about the thin staffing level (we reported).

The situation has not improved since then. The Peitinger Sicherheitswacht currently has just three members who regularly check on the village. After all, the volunteers are sporadically supported by members of the Schongau Security Guard. "Some of them start their service in Schongau and then go to Peiting," Stemmler reported.

The shortage of personnel has consequences: While in 2021 there were still 232 operating hours, in 2022 there were only 103. Even if this cannot be broken down in this way, after all, the volunteers are not on the road every day, as Stemmler explained, it showed that there is not much time available for patrols at the moment. On average, the security guards would move out once or twice a week. "When they leave, they can decide for themselves."

Vigorously beating the advertising drum

Of course, this is not enough for a visible presence of the security guard in the village, as Stemmler is also aware. For this reason, the advertising drum has been beaten in recent months, drawing attention to the tight personnel situation with radio interviews and newspaper reports. Also at the spring market in Schongau they had been on site with an information mobile, reported Stemmler.

After all, two potential applicants had come forward as a result. A start. But because the training, which lasts two months, is hardly profitable for two interested parties, it is hoped that at least one more candidate will be found by autumn. On the day of the helpers at the end of September, they want to advertise with the info mobile once again for young people.

Claudia Steindorf (SPD) wanted to know whether the deployment of the security guard had improved the situation at the hotspots from the point of view of the police. Stemmler was able to affirm this, at least in part. In the area of the building yard and fire brigade, for example, there used to be problems with groups due to disturbance of the peace. "There's been a lot of drinking." This has become significantly less. There are also hardly any graffiti graffiti left.

However, it is difficult to say how great the contribution of the security guard is to this development. While focal points had developed in the outdoor area during the Corona period - Stemmler named the Schloßberg or the wind turbine - the action is now shifting more to the village again. The volunteers would therefore regularly pay a visit to the main square, the Schloßberghalle, the train stations, the outdoor swimming pool, the ice stadium and the youth centre. The pool and the area behind the cemetery are also on the list.

Also taking care of dog droppings

Hermann Mödl (BVP) pleaded for increased patrols at the Ostbahnhof in particular. "It often looks like wheels are being demolished in some cases." Andreas Barnsteiner (BVP) wanted to know if the volunteers would also take a look at those who simply dispose of dog waste bags in the field. "As a farmer, it makes all the hairs on the back of my neck stand up." Of course, such offenses would also be punished, assured Stemmler. Assuming, of course, that you catch people.
