Perfect prelude to the first big city festival

2023-06-09T14:12:55.972Z

Highlights: The first big Schongau city festival on Marienplatz was more than successful. Dashing performances by the Plattler groups of the Schloßbergler – here at the Kreuzpolka – attracted everyone's attention and were enthusiastically applauded. For the first time, the city festival lasts for several days at the same time. Today, Friday, the gates will open at 12 noon, and organizer Hermann Gleich has been able to clear a very special treat for all car enthusiasts at short notice.

The best weather, great brass band music, dashing babblers and good-humoured guests and hosts in Schongau's parlour: The start of the first big Schongau city festival on Marienplatz was more than successful.

Schongau – The people of Schongau were still a bit alienated late on Wednesday afternoon, when the starting signal for the five-day city festival was fired. "What's going on here?" was heard again and again. But it quickly became clear to even the last one: This is a really good party for the whole family on Marienplatz.

The hearty sounds of the Schwabbruck band did the rest to lure the guests into Schongau's parlour. Add to that good food, drinks for everyone's taste and a children's carousel – the magnet was born.

City festival for the first time at Marienplatz

And how strong this actually was and is became apparent at yesterday's holiday at the latest: Traditionally, the Trachtenverein Schloßbergler together with the Stadtkapelle Schongau invited to the city festival after the Corpus Christi procession. This time, after many years on Bürgermeister-Schaegger-Platz, for the first time on Marienplatz.

Within a very short time, all benches were occupied. Another advantage of the move, because the large umbrellas provided the necessary shade in bright sunshine. The guests had come from near and far. Even from far away: A group of 21 people from Schongau's twin city Colmar visited the city festival for the first time. And "Les amies de jumelage de Colmar" – which means "friends of Colmar's twin towns" – were completely enthusiastic.

"Bavarian tradition is something very special"

"Some of us have been to Schongau before, but some are there for the first time. But to be able to experience the real Bavarian tradition here today is something very special," they agreed.

They really got a lot of it: The Schongau town band offered the finest traditional brass music in its full line-up, and the Plattler groups of the Schloßbergler showed dashing dances and splashes. The proud parents and especially the French guests could no longer keep up with the photography and filming with their mobile phones.

This year, for the first time, the city festival lasts for several days

Fortunately, they were able to do so again and again, because this year the festival lasted much longer than usual. Another advantage of the move: The costumers did not have to dismantle everything again in the early afternoon.

Everything will remain the same for the next three days, because there is still a big program to come: Today, Friday, the gates will open at 12 noon, and organizer Hermann Gleich has been able to clear a very special treat for all car enthusiasts at short notice. At 14:30 p.m., up to 25 drivers from the "Porsche Club Austria" will stop at Marienplatz, whose tour of Bavaria happens to pass through Schongau.

The motto of Saturday is "Day of the Clubs", starting at 10 a.m. This will be followed by the "Culture Sunday" from 12 noon. Here, too, those responsible would like to see numerous guests – and continue to have a gracious insight from Peter.
