On Thursday evening (8 June), ARD and ZDF fought a ratings duel with the "Usedom Crime Story" and "The Mountain Rescuers". Now it is clear which format could take the victory.
Berlin/Mainz – On Thursday (8 June), a colourful programme was once again offered to the television audience at primetime. ProSieben showed a new edition of "Germany's Next Topmodel" with Heidi Klum (50), while an old "Usedom crime thriller" ran on ARD and a repeat episode of "The Mountain Rescuers" flickered across the screens on ZDF. One format was clearly able to take the victory.

In the battle for the best ratings of the day, the public broadcasters are always in a tight race and leave the private broadcasters little chance to keep up. On Corpus Christi, ARD showed the Usedom crime thriller "Uninvited Guests", which was broadcast for the first time on November 11, 2021, thus bridging the waiting time until the new episodes of the crime series, which are scheduled to run in autumn. Meanwhile, ZDF showed the "Bergretter" episode "Loslassen", the second episode of the 12th season, which premiered in 2020.
As can be seen from the DWDL number center, the ratings victory in the total audience on Thursday was clearly achieved by the ARD. With 4.71 million viewers and a remarkable market share of 20 percent, the "Usedom crime thriller" placed itself at the top of the winner's podium, followed by the station's own "Tagesschau" (4.26 million viewers) and the ZDF magazine "heute Journal" (3.47 million viewers). With 3.21 million viewers and a market share of 13.7 percent, "Die Bergretter" was only able to take fifth place – which is still a proud achievement for a repeat episode.
Which number of spectators set the record in Germany?
On 13 July 2014, ARD made television history: the World Cup final between Germany and Argentina (1-0 a.e.t.) was watched by an estimated 34.65 million people on their own television sets. Crazy: People who watched the game at public viewing or in bars, for example, were not included in this count. The actual number is therefore likely to be considerably higher.
ARD and ZDF have the strongest overall audience, but "GNTM" wins among younger target groups
While ARD and ZDF are unlikely to lose their lead in terms of total audience to the productions of private broadcasters anytime soon, ProSieben and RTL are clearly ahead in the target group of 14- to 49-year-olds. With 0.78 million viewers and a market share of 17.4 percent, "Germany's Next Topmodel" took the gold, while the silver went to "Peter Kloeppel durchleuchten" (0.56 million viewers).

The "Usedom crime thriller" landed in seventh place with 0.35 million television viewers and thus also performed better than "The Mountain Rescuers" among younger audiences. 0.23 million viewers tuned in to the home series with Sebastian Ströbel (46) and Luise Bähr (43) – which was only enough for the 20th position in the top 25 of the day.
In the younger target group, ZDF and the "mountain rescuers" had to bow to Heidi Klum and her models. This fall, however, the worlds of the two formats will meet, because Heidi Klum has a guest role in the new season of "The Mountain Rescuers". Sources used:dwdl.de
