Pope Francis, 86, has spent a second peaceful night at Rome's Gemelli Hospital, where he is recovering for several days after abdominal surgery, the Vatican said Friday.
The Argentine Jesuit was operated Wednesday under general anesthesia, for three hours, to resolve painful "adhesions" on his abdominal wall, consequences of his colon operation in July 2021. "Last night also went well," the Holy See's press office said in a brief statement Friday morning, adding that more information would be released later in the day.
Stay at the "Hospital of the Popes"
The pope is subject to a water diet and his evolution is regular, the Vatican said Thursday. "His general health is good, he is alert and breathing spontaneously," according to his medical team. The pope is expected to spend several days on the 10th floor of this facility known as the "hospital of the popes," in the same room that John Paul II has used many times. His hearings were cancelled until June 18.
