Just before the week ends, we have arranged for you the Sabbath entry and exit times on 20 Sivan 5723. Throughout Israel, Shabbat will be marked with rest from the busy week, prayers and family meals. On Shabbat, the Torah portion will be read in the synagogues.
The portion tells the story of the sin of the spies, who were sent to explore the Land of Israel and returned to report what they saw. Most spies described Canaan as fertile and flowing with milk and honey, but warned of the fortified cities and the "giants" who lived there. As a result, fear arose among the Israelites and they did not want to enter Canaan. Therefore, they were sentenced to 40 years of wandering in the desert. During these years, an entire generation died, and later in the Torah it is told how Moses himself saw the Promised Land, but did not live to enter it.
