Two road accidents occurred within a few hours, along the Umbrian stretch of the A1 motorway, both on the southern carriageway between Fabro and Orvieto, in the province of Terni, caused queues and slowdowns that were then resolved.
The first accident occurred around 15 pm at kilometer 447 and involved an empty fuel tanker truck, of which the driver lost control, knocking down the central guardrail and ending up sideways on the roadway.
Three cars were involved in the accident and the final toll is one person - on board one of the cars - who was not seriously injured.
Shortly after 17 pm, following the long queue formed after the first accident, at kilometer 435 there was a rear-end collision involving a heavy vehicle and two cars. No injuries were reported in this case.
On the spot, to manage the road network and reconstruct the incident, the Orvieto Traffic Police officers, coordinated by the commander Stefano Spagnoli, the firefighters and the 118 operators were brought in. With them also the employees of Autostrade per l'Italia and the volunteers of the Civil Protection of the Orvieto area who assisted the people in the queue, distributing drinks and comfort items.
