VW Golf burns out completely in Weilheim: police do not rule out arson

In the middle of the night, a car was on fire in Weilheim. The criminal investigation department is now investigating. She interviewed local residents and is looking for more witnesses.

Weilheim – A car burned out completely on Thursday morning in Weilheim. Now, under the direction of the Munich II Public Prosecutor's Office, the Weilheim Criminal Investigation Department is investigating.

As she writes in a press release, the vehicle was a blue VW Golf parked on Christoph-Selhamer-Straße. The fire was noticed and reported around 4:30 a.m.

Fire brigade prevents attack on other cars

The Weilheim fire brigade arrived with 13 firefighters. "With the help of a C-pipe under respiratory protection, the fire was quickly extinguished. It was possible to prevent it from spreading to nearby vehicles," says Commander Stefan Herbst, describing the operation, which lasted around an hour. "Despite the quick intervention, a total loss of the VW Golf could not be prevented."

Car burned out: police questioned residents

No one was injured. The police estimate the damage at around 5000 euros. The vehicle was towed away and examined for traces. In addition, residents were interviewed on Friday. "At the present time, arson cannot be ruled out," says the press office of the police headquarters of Upper Bavaria South.

Therefore, witnesses are still being sought. Anyone who has noticed suspicious persons or vehicles in the vicinity of the scene of the fire – before or during the outbreak of the fire – is asked to report to the Weilheim Criminal Investigation Department (telephone 0881/6400).
