On Friday night, IDF soldiers thwarted drug smuggling along the Egyptian border, worth an estimated NIS 5 million, and arrested two suspects. IDF observations identified a number of suspects who tried to smuggle drugs into Israeli territory in the Yoav Brigade area of the border.
IDF soldiers from the Magen Eilat Battalion and the Cheetah Battalion, and Border Police fighters were dispatched to the scene and began a chase after the suspects in the smuggling attempt. The forces detained two suspects. During the chase, the forces located and confiscated sacks containing suspected marijuana weighing 21 kilograms, with an estimated value of NIS 2.35 million, and substances suspected of being a hashish drug weighing 26 kilograms, with an estimated value of NIS 2.35 million.

During 2023, about 30 drug smuggling from the Egyptian border worth about half a billion NIS has been thwarted so far. The suspects who were arrested and the drugs confiscated were transferred for further investigation by the Israel Police. "Drugs worth about five million shekels were seized," said Capt. F., a company commander in the Cheetah Battalion. "This is one of many successes in thwarting security incidents on the fence."
South American drug smuggling ring caught
At the end of an undercover investigation, a cocaine smuggling network was seized from South America, concealed in bottles weighing about 140 liters and estimated at tens of millions of shekels. The investigation was conducted in recent months by the Central Bureau of Investigation, and today (Saturday) a number of suspects were arrested for involvement in the castle.

SWAT detectives monitored and observed the drugs hidden in one of the Triangle cities, and arrested a number of suspects – residents of one of the Galilee villages and Qalansawe, as well as detained two Tira residents for interrogation. All the materials and packages were transferred to the police forensic laboratories for further extraction of evidence, and the unit intends to bring the suspects to court tomorrow, with a request to extend their detention, in accordance with the needs of the investigation.
