It's back: The stone statue of Abbot Aribo has been erected in its original place at the fisherman's weaver in Rottach-Egern. Previously, she had to survive an attack.
Rottach-Egern – Since Corpus Christi, it has once again stood upright and firmly anchored on the fishermen's weavers' estate in the Bay of Egern – the stone statue of Abbot Aribo. Last fall, the figure was probably deliberately torn from its anchorage. "There have been some traces of this," said Mayor Christian Köck (CSU) recently in the Rottach municipal council.
Stone sculptor has restored figure at a "tolerable price"
In addition to the damage caused by the "Abbot attack", the condition of the figure had also suffered over time: the nose and Abbot's staff were damaged. That is why the mayor was happy to be able to announce that this has been remedied: "The Waakirchen stone sculptor Konrad Boxtermann has lovingly restored the abbot." In addition, for a "tolerable price", as Köck emphasized.
The author of the abbot figure could not be found
In this context, the community had investigated who had made the stone sculpture of the Tegernsee abbot, who built the first church in Egernsee in 1111. But she didn't find what she was looking for. At least you could find out in the town hall who was the donor of the figure and several others in the municipality. It was the Dortmund-born Berlin cigar entrepreneur and patron Curd Bohnewand (1888-1966). At first, he and his wife Erna had only taken regular vacations at Lake Tegernsee until they moved completely and also moved the headquarters of the then well-known "Michel cigars" to Rottach-Egern. In 1961, Rottach-Egern awarded Curd Bohnewand honorary citizenship for all the foundations and local beautifications.
