The German Weather Service has issued a severe weather warning for several districts in Bavaria. The region north of Munich is also affected.
Munich – Since 16:51 p.m. on Sunday (August 13), a severe weather warning from the German Weather Service (DWD) has been in effect for several districts between Augsburg and Munich. Background: A massive thunderstorm cell is currently moving over Swabia and Upper Bavaria. The DWD warns of heavy rain, storms and hail. The warning in the wording:
Severe thunderstorm moves from Swabia to Upper Bavaria – DWD warns clearly
"Local thunderstorms are approaching from the west. There is heavy rain with precipitation amounts of up to 30 l/m² in a short time as well as heavy squalls with speeds of up to 90 km/h and hail with grain sizes of around three cm."
According to the current status, the warning is valid until 18 p.m. The following districts are affected:
Severe weather warning in Bavaria! These counties are affected
- Augsburg, city and district
- Dillingen
- Donau-Ries
- Neuburg-Schrobenhausen
- Aichach-Friedberg
- Pfaffenhofen
- Dachau
- Freising
It is a red severe weather warning of level three of four possible levels. In this weather, the DWD advises people to stay at home in these regions and close all windows and doors. The squalls can uproot trees, lightning strikes and flooding cannot be ruled out.
Strong thunderstorms are also warned in southern Swabia and almost all of Middle Franconia.
