The "Last Generation" is currently causing a stir with blockades in Regensburg and Munich. But the activists are also protesting on Lake Chiemsee.

Prien am Chiemsee – They are on everyone's lips again: The activists of the "Last Generation" already caused a disruptive action at a PR event held by Markus Söder last Saturday, August 19. In the course of this, they also announced protests in Regensburg and Munich. And they now followed these words with deeds, even if not everything went according to plan in Regensburg. At least in Munich, the activists caused many disruptions to road traffic on Thursday, August 24. With the amount of protest actions, it was almost forgotten that the "Last Generation" also targeted Lake Chiemsee.

"Last generation" protests at sight – the water turned black

Shortly before the extensive protests in Munich on Thursday, activists of the "Last Generation" paid a visit to a popular attraction in Bavaria: the Herreninsel in Chiemsee, where the New Herrenchiemsee Palace is located. In front of this monumental building there are two fountains – the Fortuna and Fama fountains. And it was precisely these who fell victim to a protest action by the "Last Generation".

On Wednesday, August 23, activists climbed into the wells, dyed the water black as oil and symbolically sank the Basic Law. This emerges from a press release of the "Last Generation", which writes of citizens who have been active there. The specific reason is therefore the date: On August 23, 75 years ago, the draft of the Basic Law was completed by the Constitutional Convention on Herreninsel. And the "last generation" sees the government continuously breaking it.

Activists: "The government is fueling the climate catastrophe" – and breaking the Basic Law

From canisters they had brought with them, the activists dyed the well water black as oil and sank some editions of the Basic Law there. In doing so, they quoted some passages of the book and shouted, for example: "The state also protects the natural foundations of life in responsibility for future generations".

A local activist justified the protest action as follows: "The government is fueling the climate catastrophe and thus burying the fundamental rights that were written down here exactly 75 years ago. [...] Our constitution is being sunk by our government in the oil of fossil fuels." The "Last Generation" is therefore once again calling for consistent action by the Federal Government. The activists had already carried out a similar action in Berlin in March of this year – whereupon they were sharply criticized by politicians. (FHZ)
