Mannheim – A man in a white T-shirt and gray pants storms between cars on a blockade of the "Last Generation". A video shows him approaching the activists from behind. Then he pulls a young woman off the street with a huge jerk, gives the activist next to her first a kick in the stomach and then a punch in the face.

Motorists attack walking demonstration: Protesters sit down for self-protection

The scene lasts about ten seconds, and the protesters could not defend themselves. They probably wouldn't have done it anyway, because the "last generation" is non-violent, as they themselves explain.

The situation arose from a walking demonstration: demonstrators walked slowly along the B36 in Mannheim, suddenly several cars stopped and the drivers attacked the protest group. The activists sat down on the ground to show their peacefulness, as the "Last Generation" declares. In addition, the protesters cannot be pushed to the ground. The escalation followed.

Attacks on activists: "Last generation" blames the German government

Attacks on activists are on the rise. However, the group does not want to blame motorists for the increasing aggression.

"The federal government has ignored our protest for so long that it is now to such scenes as yesterday (Wednesday, September 6, d.R.) in Mannheim. This saddens and shocks us," writes spokeswoman Aimée van Baalen in a press release from the "Last Generation" under the post on X, formerly Twitter. Nevertheless, the group wants to continue the protests.

The beating attack is the second incident from Mannheim in just one week. On Monday (4 September), a policewoman poured oil on an activist. Intention not excluded.
