Eyewitnesses said the scenes they were exposed to looked "like a war." The local police received advance information about the intention of the regime's opponents to attack the event, called the Eritrea Festival. Therefore, reinforced police forces were deployed. Among other things, police helicopters were used to monitor the movement of the rioters. Despite the violence, the festival continued according to the decision of the organizers.
Similar incidents yesterday in Lübeck and July in Giessen also ended in violent clashes. In Giessen, 26 policemen were injured.
