Early Monday morning a passenger truck from the Molina company rushed 150 meters down a ravine in the district of Anco, in the department of Huancavelica. At least 24 people died during the incident and at least 18 other people have been injured, who were transferred to health centers in Churcampa.
According to Anco authorities, the bus was covering the route between Huanta and Huancayo and point to a possible landslide that had obstructed the highway for months.
According to the Peruvian Ombudsman's Office, in 2022 there were 3,311 deaths from traffic accidents. Speeding and recklessness of drivers are the main causes of road accidents in Peru, the prosecutor's office states.
