The France has created a support fund that will be used by its embassies to defend the rights of LGBT+ people around the world, Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna announced on Monday (September 18th) on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the United Nations LGBTQI Group. The fund is endowed with 2 million euros "so that our embassies support those who defend the rights of LGBT+ people on a daily basis and around the world, sometimes risking their lives," said spokeswoman Anne-Claire Legendre.
The France also reiterated on Monday "its commitment to the universal decriminalization of homosexuality and the defense of the rights of LGBT+ people". In autumn 2022, it appointed an ambassador for LGBT rights, Jean-Marc Berthon, a first in the history of French diplomacy.
