Fires, demonstrations, tags... Anger is brewing in Belgium. The cause? A decree adopted almost unanimously by the parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation on 7 September 2023. The latter has endorsed the obligation for all sixth and second graders in the south of the country to organize sessions on education for relational, emotional and sexual life (Evras).
Concretely, these students will now receive an animation on themes related to the body, gender, emotions or sexuality, in the form of a two-hour session per year. Nearly 85,000 students in Wallonia and 25,000 students in Brussels will be concerned, reports Le Soir. This is the new guide for teachers that focuses anger, written in inclusive writing, and called "non-heteronormative". In addition, kindergarten and primary school students may also be involved, on a voluntary basis by teachers.
