Ousted Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum has decided to seize the West African justice to obtain his release and the restoration of constitutional order in Niger, after a coup that overthrew him on July 26, announced Wednesday (September 20th) to AFP his Senegalese lawyer, Seydou Diagne. The petition, filed on 18 September before the Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), invokes the "arbitrary arrest" and "violation of the freedom to come and go" of President Bazoum, detained in his residence. In the event of a favourable decision, "the State of Niger has (ura) the legal obligation to execute the decision," the lawyer said.
