Kassel – After a change in the weather with a series of storms blew through Germany, the next blatant weather change is now imminent. A cold front is already making its way into Germany this night and is causing a significant drop in temperature, weather expert Dominic Jung announces.

It is the warmest September since weather records began in 1881, and it even beats a few summer months in terms of temperatures. So far this month, summer day after summer day has followed. But that's over for the time being. "Now we are facing a big, or at least felt big, drop in temperature," warns wetter.net expert Jung. Cold air masses push the heat away, "so there will be a few cooler days for the time being".

The DWD also warns of heavy rain and thunderstorms over northern Hesse. The forecasts of the German Weather Service point to rainfall between 15 and 25 liters per hour, in some places even up to 45 liters of rain are possible within six hours, according to a meteorologist of the DWD.

"The wind is changing, the air masses are increasingly coming from the northwest," explains the meteorologist. Already in the night to Friday it will be very changeable, with clouds, rain showers, scattered continuous rain. Temperatures drop to 10 to 15 degrees. It will also remain cooler on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures dropping to 4 to 8 degrees at night – at a height of two metres. "That's enough for the first ground frost in some areas," says Jung.

After the onset of cold air on Friday, it will be rainy at first, especially in the south of Germany. The rain showers can also be heavier locally. Temperatures range between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a fresh wind.

With the passage of the cold front from west to east, showers, rain and isolated thunderstorms are to be expected. Temperatures will drop. It will then remain cooler until Sunday. But then the ex-hurricane "Nigel" gets involved in the "weather kitchen" again, according to Jung. It pushes warm air masses all the way to us in Germany – and the summer joys continue: "Summer seems to want to make one comeback after another this year," Jung notes. As early as next week, highs of up to 30 degrees are possible again.
