Violent storm in the Eifel: The storm covers roofs and knocks down trees. The thunderstorm front even triggers a landslide.
Nusbaum-Freilingen – The DWD had announced heavy rain and thunderstorms. They hit the Eifel with full force. 15 roofs have covered the storm in the district of Bitburg-Prüm, the fire brigade announced. The damage is extensive.

The force of the cold front was "very surprised," says Christian Hammes, deputy head of the fire brigade of the VG Südeifel, the Tagesschau. Many cellars have filled up, the power went out in Birkenfeld and there was a landslide in Hüttingen. The federal highway 50 is closed because trees have been knocked down. Civil protection has been in action since the early evening.

Even a tornado is said to have stormed through the Eifel. Videos show clouds that look like a pair of winds. And the weather portal Météo Boulaide is committed: That was a tornado.
"Suddenly, I saw a trunk from the sky to the ground. It was tremendous! I was so scared," a woman told sol.de. She, too, is sure that this must have been a real tornado. Tornadoes can certainly occur in Germany, warnings of extreme weather are becoming more and more frequent.
No injuries in storms in the Eifel: Fire brigade, THW and Red Cross in action
Since about 20 p.m., the weather has calmed down again. "We don't have any information about casualties at the moment. We are in the process of exploring the situation together with our emergency services on the ground," a spokesman for civil protection told the dpa news agency.
