Highlights: New "super radar" traps in Austria – they trigger unnoticed and much faster. Only recently, the penalties for using a mobile phone while driving were raised. Fast drivers are now affected by the new super speed cameras. Even 3 km/h too fast can make expensive holiday photos flutter into the mailboxes. The elaborate technology in the form of fixed radar boxes is still only used very sporadically, but after the launch in Vienna, an increasing expansion is to be expected. In Germany, this technology is currently only used by police officers with radar guns.

New speed cameras in Austria measure with the most advanced laser technology. How the modern devices work and at how many km/h they trigger.

Vienna – In the Austrian capital, 19 speed cameras are already equipped with the new technology for radar checks. According to the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club (ÖAMTC), it offers advantages over the old radar technology, which is intended to revolutionize speed control and hold even more speeders accountable:

  • Lightning goes unnoticed by drivers
  • Trigger when speeding by 3 km/h
  • Take pictures of the front and rear for better driver identification

Triggered unnoticed: New "super radar" traps are being used on Austria's motorways

Austria wants to ensure greater safety in road traffic. Only recently, the penalties for using a mobile phone while driving were raised. Fast drivers are now affected by the new super speed cameras. Although the new radar boxes look like the old ones, they are equipped with the latest laser technology – with a lower measurement tolerance. Even 3 km/h too fast can make expensive holiday photos flutter into the mailboxes. The nasty thing about it is that, unlike old radars, the lightning moment goes unnoticed by the driver. Some devices can flash in both directions depending on the traffic situation, warns the ÖAMTC.

The laser boxes are already being used at the Währinger Gürtel at the level of the General Hospital, at the Floridsdorfer Bridge and at 17 other locations in Vienna, reports heute.at. Austria is thus one step ahead of Germany. In Germany, this technology is currently only used by police officers with radar guns – particularly pronounced at the annual Blitzmarathon.

This is how the new laser speed cameras are used in Austria

According to the ÖAMTC, the Vienna police are relying on a mobile concept: "The new radars can be brought from cabin to cabin, so the locations where there is a "live" radar box are constantly changed." Above all, locations with high traffic volumes, high risk of accidents and with restrictions for environmental reasons are selected.

Laser speed cameras emit many light pulses in a very short time, describing the mode of operation geldkatalog.org repentance. The pulses are reflected by cars and evaluated by means of a receiver module and appropriate technology. The elaborate technology in the form of fixed radar boxes is still only used very sporadically, but after the launch in Vienna, an increasing expansion is to be expected.
