Even after primetime, the TV evening remains fiercely competitive. On Wednesday (20 September), RTL and ZDF in particular were able to achieve a late increase in ratings.
Cologne/Berlin – In particular, the coveted primetime, the 20:15 p.m. slot, is highly sought after – and correspondingly fiercely competitive on some TV evenings. But even in the hours that followed, the TV stations were struggling to get the best rating. It is not always possible to keep the viewers.
Primetime victory for ARD – after which RTL and ZDF gain ground
This was also the case on Wednesday evening (20 September): The primetime victory was won by the first with the film "Flunkyball" (3.64 million viewers), which ran until about 21:43 p.m. At the same time, Jan Böhmermann's (42) "Let yourself be monitored!" (ZDF) of the new RTL series "The Traitors", as the DWDL number center proves.
The industry service has also recorded the viewer behavior on Wednesday evening in its "all eyes on screens" overview. This clearly shows that with the end of "Flunkyball" the ARD lost quite a few viewers. The follow-up program, the business program "plusminus", was only interested in 2.24 million viewers, i.e. about 1.4 million people less.
Because "plusminus" interests few – RTL and ZDF with a jump in ratings
The main beneficiaries of this development were RTL and ZDF: From 21:45 p.m., "The Traitors" (RTL) was able to improve its ratings – despite the complexity of the show. But the luck did not last: After another commercial break, some of the RTL viewers switched off or switched. ZDF was able to celebrate: The "heute-journal", which also started at 21:45 p.m., drove up the station's ratings. Here, a good 800,000 more viewers tuned in than for the Böhmermann show.
Shortly before 21:45 p.m., the film "Flunkyball" (l.) ended on Das Erste – reason enough for many ARD viewers to switch © to RTL ("Die Verräter"; m.) or ZDF ("heute-journal"; r.) Luis Zeno Kuhn/BR/Hager Moss Film GmbH/dpa & RTL/RTL+ & ZDF/dpa
This even gave the "heute-journal" a ratings victory among the total audience within the programs that had started after 20:15 p.m. Things are going correspondingly well at ZDF – thanks to the versatile program: In the cult show "Bares für Rares", there was recently a very unfortunate loss of 13,000 euros.
