Kiev's allies are judged as enemies. Westerners are "directly fighting" Russia in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Saturday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
"You can call it whatever you want but they fight us, they fight us directly. We call it hybrid warfare, but it doesn't change the reality," he added, referring to financial aid, armaments and "mercenaries" from Western countries.
The head of Russian diplomacy, during a long press conference at the UN headquarters in New York, was asked about the involvement of the United States in the conflict in Ukraine. "The fact that they are fighting de facto against us using the bodies of Ukrainians, I think everyone here who is interested in the situation in Ukraine, knows very well that the Americans, the British and others are fighting by first supplying more and more weapons," Lavrov charged.
Peace summit deemed "unfeasible"
The United States and European countries that have been supplying weapons systems to Kiev since the Russian invasion of February 2022 insist that they are not at war with Moscow, but that they are helping Ukraine defend itself.
The Russian minister was speaking on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, during which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky personally came to ask for more support from the international community.
He proposed a peace summit to discuss his peace plan to end the war. Lavrov said the proposed regulation was "completely unfeasible, impossible to implement, unrealistic."
