Summer weather, relaxed atmosphere: Police and festival management draw a positive balance of the Oktoberfest half-time.
Munich – Mid-term balance at the Oktoberfest: By the middle of the festival, about 3.4 million people had visited the folk festival. This number exceeds the number of visitors from the previous year (3 million) and even those of the last Oktoberfest before the pandemic in 2019 (3.3 million), according to the festival management on Sunday. With almost consistently ideal weather, the atmosphere at the festival was relaxed and peaceful.
Oktoberfest mid-term review: "Summery and relaxed" mood
Clemens Baumgärtner, the festival director and member of the CSU, described the atmosphere as "summery and relaxed". Both the police and the medical service reported a calm course. Despite the increased number of visitors, the number of applications was relatively low.
Shock moment at the start of the Oktoberfest: Roller coaster accident with injured people triggered large-scale operation
The police recorded fewer operations than in the previous year: The officers of the Wiesnwache had to intervene 838 times, while at the halfway point of the previous year there were 923 operations. On the first day of the Oktoberfest, there was an accident on the family roller coaster "Höllenblitz", in which eight people were injured and which triggered a large-scale operation. A train that was about to start rolled back and collided with a stationary train. After a repair and an inspection by the TÜV, the roller coaster was put back into operation on Friday.
