(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 24 - President Sergio Mattarella andPremier Giorgia Meloni were among many institutionalrepresentatives to pay their respects on Sunday to the latetwo-time former president Giorgio Napolitano, who died in Romeon Friday aged 98.
Senate Speaker Ignazio La Russa, European Commissioner forEconomic Affairs and former premier Paolo Gentiloni, and formerEuropean Central Bank president, Bank of Italy chief and premierMario Draghi also visited the chapel of rest in the upper houseof parliament, where Napolitano's body will lie in state untilMonday afternoon.
The coffin was escorted from Rome's Salvator Mundi clinic, whereNapolitano died on Friday evening, to the Senate by theCorazzieri, the Italian presidential guard of honour, onmotorbike.
The funeral will be celebrated with a non-religious ceremony atthe Lower House on Tuesday at 11:30 am local time. (ANSA).
