The CSU has chosen a party leader 46 times. In most cases, the elections ended with values above the 90 percent mark because there were no opposing candidates. Only in December 1946, 1949, 1955 and 2007 did battle votes produce results in which there were also losers. In 1955, for example, FranzJosef Strauss was defeated by Hanns Seidel and in 2007 by Horst Seehofer and Gabriele Pauli.

Three weeks before the state elections in Bavaria, Markus Söder stood for election as CSU chairman and achieved a personal best. All CSU results in the ranking.

Munich – With a historic 96.6 percent, the delegates at the CSU party congress have confirmed Markus Söder as their chairman. He thus clearly topped his results from the past elections (see ranking below) and can go into the final phase of the state election in Bavaria on October 8, 2023 strengthened. Only Söder's role model and CSU superfather Franz Josef Strauss achieved a better result twice.

CSU party chairmanship in the ranking: The best and worst results of all time

The CSU has chosen a party leader 46 times. In most cases, the elections ended with values above the 90 percent mark because there were no opposing candidates. Only in December 1946, 1949, 1955 and 2007 did battle votes produce results in which there were also losers. In 1955, for example, Franz Josef Strauss was defeated by Hanns Seidel and in 2007 by Horst Seehofer and Gabriele Pauli by Erwin Huber.
