During Ukraine's attack on Crimea, the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet was damaged. According to information from Kiev, however, 34 officers were also killed, including the head of the fleet.
Kyiv - In the Ukrainian attack on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet last Friday, the head of the fleet, Viktor Sokolov, was also killed, according to information from Kyiv.
"After the hit at the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, 34 officers died, including the commander of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia," the press service of the special forces in the Ukrainian military said on Telegram. From the Russian side, there is still no confirmation of the admiral's death.
On Friday, the Ukrainian military covered the Crimean peninsula, which has been annexed by Russia since 2014, with a combined attack by drones and cruise missiles. Videos show that the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the port city of Sevastopol was hit several times and seriously damaged. After the attack, however, Moscow spoke of only one missing person.
Viktor Sokolov was appointed commander of the Black Sea Fleet in September 2022. According to media reports, his predecessor was removed from office after the sinking of the missile cruiser "Moskva", the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, a few months after the start of Moscow's war of aggression against Ukraine.
