"My grandchildren are my biggest hobby," says Edith Anwander with a smile on her 80th birthday. "They keep me young." In fact, you can't tell by any means that the jubilarian is at an advanced age.

Finsing – Edith Anwander was born in Landshut and grew up in the capital of Lower Bavaria. At the age of 15, he moved to Munich for the first time. While she was training as a commercial clerk, she lived there with her aunt. She met her future husband Johann during this time. "But my uncle gave him a ban on contact," says Anwander.

After all, the jubilarian was still a minor at the time. At the age of 18, she returned to Landshut and her Johann did not give up: "Luckily he got my address and wrote to me," the 80-year-old looks back. In 1965 the wedding bells rang and a little later son Jürgen was born. The couple, who now lived in Munich's Thalkirchen district, were also happy about their daughter Nicole.

Just as caring as Edith Anwander took care of her offspring, she now gives her five grandchildren great affection. Dominik, Marcel, Carolin, Sebastian and Selina, now between the ages of 16 and 27, like to visit their grandma regularly.

Only a year ago, Edith Anwander moved to Finsing in the immediate vicinity of her daughter Nicole. The 80-year-old says she does miss the Isar and the Flaucher a bit: "But I've settled in quite well here, and I like it in Finsing."

One of her great hobbies is handicrafts, and she is passionate about creating cards and candles. Edith Anwander loved hiking in the mountains as much as she loved her holidays in Italy. With her husband, who died 15 years ago, she went to the Adriatic Sea every year.

Together with her daughter Nicole, Edith Anwander spent some beautiful days by the sea there this year – a surprise in honour of her 80th birthday. There were also congratulations on behalf of the municipality of Finsing: Third Mayor Andreas Wimmer brought a gift basket. Afterwards, Anwander celebrated her milestone birthday in a small circle. The big family celebration will follow in the next few weeks.
