Walla's local arena hosts Yuval Arad, head of the Kochav Council Yair Tzur Yigal, with whom we will talk about the situation in the country, the legal revolution, governance and citizens' security, and his decision to stop the plans of the Ministry of Housing.
Yuval Arad was elected in 2018 to head Kochav Yair Tzur Yigal, since then they have won the Education Prize of the Ministry of Education and a series of other achievements, the most prominent of which is strengthening the sense of security and fighting the phenomenon of criminal burglary.
Quite a few mayors fall silent during the turbulent political period that the country is going through, certainly during election season, do you take a different line?
"We have a responsibility as mayors to express a position during this period. As you mentioned, I was one of the first mayors to address the president of the country, and I even came three times to reinforce the president that a broad national consensus must be reached. Constitutional changes are not made without broad consensus. I also oppose any change in the composition of the Judicial Appointments Committee, and personally it is a red line that, if crossed, may even lead to a step up in the way we express in these contexts. I call on the prime minister to stop the reform and lead to broad national consensus."
What are your plans for the future?
"Next term, the flagship project in our work plan will be the revolution in culture and leisure. I intend to make a dramatic change in the way we consume culture and leisure in the community, with the intention of providing solutions for all audiences and ages with cultural content that has not come here before - plays, performances and concerts. As early as January 2024, the new council will approve my proposal to begin planning the construction of the new performing arts center in the community – the new House of Culture into which we will establish collaborations with the largest theaters in the country, rock and pop performances, and we will also bring home the graduation events of the dance school."
"In the area of residents' personal security, we have invested huge budgets in improving security and reducing the number of burglaries and property crimes by more than 80%. The number of home burglaries dropped from 120 in 2018 to just 9 at the end of 2022."
"We will work to promote women in all key positions in the council, Kochav Yair Tzur Yigal will become a council with the largest female majority among elected officials in the council's plenum."
