The Minister of the Interior of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Christian Pegel, has been affected by the young age of the 14-year-old suspect, who is said to have killed a six-year-old in Pragsdorf near Neubrandenburg. "The young age of the suspect frightens me personally very much," the SPD politician was quoted as saying in a statement on Tuesday.
At the same time, he was relieved that the investigators had made important progress with the arrest on Tuesday, "even if this result unfortunately cannot change anything about the violent and brutal death of the six-year-old."
The German 14-year-old was arrested on Tuesday and taken into custody. According to the police, he was the last person who had seen the victim alive on September 14 at the football field in Pragsdorf. He had become entangled in contradictions during interrogations. In addition, according to the police, there are DNA traces that can be assigned "with a very high degree of probability to the 14-year-old". The motive was still unclear.
