Senate sends bill to avert government shutdown

2023-09-26T22:29:26.738Z

Highlights: Senate sends bill to avert government shutdown. The measure to fund the government until Nov. 17 is expected to pass the upper house without delay, but it is unclear whether it will pass the Republican-controlled House of Representatives before the deadline. The bipartisan bill, negotiated between the Democratic majority leaders and the Republican minority, includes $4.500 billion in aid to Ukraine. It also includes $6 billion in FEMA emergency funding for disaster relief. The bill would keep money flowing through November 17 and give Congress more time to reach a broader agreement.
